The Easier Route of the Book Publishing Process

In every success comes hard work. One day, the long hours in front of the screen and brainstorming until dawn are going to pay off. Writing your work is one thing, and sending your book “out there” is another. And as a rite of passage to the literary world, you are going to face yet another challenge— book printing and publishing.

There are two possible ways that you can take when it comes to publishing a book. You can either go the traditional way, wherein a book publishing agent is a must, or you can take the more adventurous route which is self-publishing. Choosing to self-publish your book means having full-control, but this also means that you have to be an entrepreneur.

Below is a step-by-step guide on how to self-publish your own book:

writing

1. Editing Your Book

No matter how good your grammar is or how many times you have self-edited your work, you are still going to need a professional editor. This book publishing process is crucial because poorly-edited books always end up in a disaster. Prepare to spend around heaps of money for professional editing, but be assured of the quality it gives your book. Building a good relationship with your editor is also a must. The more your editor knows about you and your personality, the better grip he or she has when it comes to your writing style.

2. Cover Design

Readers always judge the book by its cover. A cheap-looking book screams unprofessional. You have to make sure that your book looks beguiling and that it won’t go unnoticed by shoppers. So if you have a tight budget, stick to minimalist design. They are trendy, sleek, and different. Make sure that your cover conveys the right message to your readers. If your target audiences are women, stick to lighter colors like pink. If you are looking into attracting male readers, use masculine colors like black or dark blue.

3. Book Description

State a problem and provide solutions. Don’t forget to add a call-to-action word at the end of the description. Yes, call-to-action words are typical, but they don’t get old. After writing the book description, convert your sales copy to HTML. There are freelancers over the web that can do the work for five dollars or less. You will then receive it back in a text file.

Proceed to Author Central or Amazon and create your Author Bio and add pictures. When you are all set, you can already upload your book and you will be  given a choice to add your sales copy in the book description. Using the HTML code, the sales copy will then appear and you will have the option to make the texts bold to catch readers’ attention.

4. Make Your Own Digital Book

Upload your book to Kindle. But first, you will need to convert your file to MOBI format. There is a program called Scrivener that can do the conversion. But a lot of things can go wrong during the conversion process, so some writers hire freelancers to do the conversion. Expect to pay around thirty to fifty dollars, depending on the length of the book.

5. Getting Book Reviews

Your book is good and you know it—or maybe your mom and some of your closest friends do too. But how will your readers know that if no one is reviewing your book? That is why more and more authors resort to paying for book reviews. The downside of this trick is that readers can tell if a review is candid or fraudulent. If you want authentic reviews, look for book bloggers. Get involved in a conversation with them or follow them on social media. Make sure though that they are interested in your genre or topic or else, you are going to end up very disappointed.
