Know how writing a novel goes with these guidelines.

We all know that writing a novel requires skill, dedication, and some degree of relaxation to free your mind of tension. There’s no guarantee that you’ll find the novel easy to write, even though you’ve already outlined the major plot points. That’s why for every writer, it’s always a good idea to look into some ways to properly write a novel.

Considering you already have a story in mind, it’s always best to make use of your creativity, as well as your imagination, to craft a gripping tale that’s sure to provoke and capture the minds of readers out there.

Writing books does take much of your time, since it will require much more than creative writing. Authors need to take note of various novel writing tips to fully maximize their skills and put them to good use.

There are a lot of useful steps out there that can help writers on how to write a novel. Here are a few general pointers to guide you in your writing process.

Outline Your Work

First, you need to have an outline of your work. You should start by conceptualizing your plot, the world you’re building, and how you’re going to write it. Authors can’t just write the story without a solid outline, hoping they could just make things up along the way.

Although you may not be able to follow your outline religiously, at least you’ll have something to refer to. By that, your outline should begin with the end in mind.

Next, in novel writing, you should write what you love. While this is rather obvious, many writers out there come up with works that they don’t really enjoy. A person who’s into fantasy will have trouble writing a travel guide, and an author who likes romance can’t exactly come up with a solid horror story. While they’re not mutually exclusive, it’s always best to write about the things you’re into, and incorporate your influences from there.

Writing a Novel

You should then have a solid structure for your novel and know how to incorporate certain elements, such as its conflict, climax, and resolution. Even though writers nowadays seemingly do away with the traditional structure, if you’re just starting out, you should begin with the usual route.

It makes your tale more coherent and readable, not leaving your readers confused at what you’ve come up with. Study what constitutes a solid structure carefully, and then, you can move forward from there.

Another thing you need to do is to find time in writing your novel. You may have some free time on certain days, but don’t limit yourself to that! You’d be surprised how much you can write in an hour or less, so during your downtime, you can just steal a few moments to work on your book. But remember: it’s not a race, so you don’t need to rush things.

Once you finish your draft, you have to go through the process of rewriting, editing, and proofreading, among others, before finally deciding to take your work to a good self-publishing company. Writing a book is an investment, and you have to strive to create the best story you can muster.
